A stellar line-up of artists has been recruited to help bring outdoor trails to life across East Dunbartonshire.

Trails and Tales is an arts and heritage learning programme - created by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust - which is uniting artists and communities to celebrate local history.

Work has been taking place in Auchinairn, Baldernock, Bearsden and Westerton, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lennoxtown, Lenzie, Milngavie, Milton of Campsie, Torrance and Twechar.

Draft trail routes have been drawn up which will be further consulted upon and amended as they progress.

The 13 artists who will be creating works to illustrate, illuminate and enrich the trails are:

  • Rachel Mimiec
  • Trevor Cromie
  • Alex Allan
  • Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva
  • Graeme Roger
  • Jacqueline Donachie
  • Katja Larsson
  • Marion Smith
  • Rachel Barron
  • Roddy Buchanan
  • Simon Whatley
  • Toby Paterson
  • Doug McLeod*

Mark Grant, General Manager of EDLC Trust, said, "The Trails and Tales programme - supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, East Dunbartonshire Council and Creative Scotland - aims to generate research, conversations and creative responses to learning.

"The goal is to design and create a series of outdoor sculptural arts and heritage trails across East Dunbartonshire.

"A huge amount of work has been carried out by the Trails and Tales team and I am delighted we have been able to recruit such a talented line-up of artists."

The Trails and Tales programme includes exploring heritage and local stories with people of all ages - working with care homes, sheltered housing, community groups, schools and early years.

Other projects include women's history, stone carving, metal forging and photography.
