Milngavie BID - supported by the Council - is hosting its first Healthy Habits event from noon-4pm, with an array of free attractions lined up, such as:

  • Breathtaking BMX stunt shows by The Clan (Douglas Street car park - 12.15pm, 1.30pm and 3.30pm)
  • Bungee run
  • Bouncy castle & slide
  • Soft play area
  • Smoothie-making bikes
  • Sumo suits (children and adults)
  • Climbing wall
  • Pillow Warz
  • Assault course
  • Face painting
  • A variety of stall-holders and more.

Heart radio presenter Zoe Kelly will also be attending and there will be prizes up for grabs.

In addition, a Family Danceathon will take place in aid of the STV Children's Appeal in Milngavie Town Hall (3-4.30pm).

Families are being encouraged to walk and cycle to the event - promoting health and wellbeing - with improved bike shelters available.

If you are driving, then the Council has agreed that charges will be suspended for the day at its car parks in Milngavie town centre - meaning you can park for free and enjoy the activities.

The event is being supported by local businesses, organisations and the Council - which recently helped to fund infrastructure works on the West Highland Way.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, said, "A great range of entertainment is on offer as part of the Healthy Habits day in Milngavie town centre. I hope as many people as possible take the chance to enjoy the many family-friendly activities taking place - supporting local shops and businesses into the bargain.

"I'm particularly pleased that once again we have been able to arrange for parking charges to be suspended for the day."

The Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee previously agreed that applications to suspend car parking charges – to support local events and economic development activity – would be considered on an individual basis.

Graeme Ross, Chair of Milngavie Business Improvement District (BID) and local business owner, said, "We're looking forward to holding our very first Healthy Habits event on Saturday 27 April in the town centre.

"The Clan stunt shows will be a particular highlight and there will be lots of free fun activities for all the family. We hope to see you there!"
