Recent school leavers in East Dunbartonshire are starting out on the right foot with the Council ranking first in Scotland for positive school leaver destinations.

The results show 98.3% of East Dunbartonshire school leavers in 2016/17 went on to further education, work or training.  This is 4.6% higher than the national average of 93.7%.

Depute Chief Executive, Education, People & Business, Ann Davie, said, “These results are absolutely outstanding and I am delighted our young people are embarking on promising futures as soon as they complete their secondary education.  We have been consistently successful in preparing our young people to move onto positive destinations having ranked in the top four since 2012/13.”

Whilst all secondary schools in the area have ranked higher than the national average, Turnbull High School in Kirkintilloch saw 100% of its recent school leavers move onto a positive destination.

Ann Davie continued, “This is a fantastic result for all our schools and I would like to congratulate the Headteachers, the staff and the pupils themselves on such an outstanding achievement.  In East Dunbartonshire our teachers, youth workers and school support staff work in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, colleges, universities and local employers to prepare pupils for life after school.  Pupils are actively encouraged to consider all the opportunities available to them and as a result the vast majority of our school leavers go on to positive destinations.   It is thanks to these partnerships and the hard work and dedication of our staff and pupils that East Dunbartonshire ranks first in Scotland.”
