Saddle up for a free swim at the Leisuredrome

Get on your bike and get a free swim at the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs.

That's the offer to pedalling patrons as part of a trial initiative being run by the Council and East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust.

If you cycle to the Leisuredrome between Monday 8 October and Sunday 4 November then you are eligible for a free dip in the pool.

To claim your free swimming session just cycle to the Leisuredrome, take a selfie on your bike outside - at the newly-upgraded shelters - and then show it to EDLC colleagues inside.

The trial is being funded by the Smarter Choices, Smarter Places programme - aimed at encouraging active travel - and may be rolled out to other leisure centres if successful.

Councillor Susan Murray, Vice Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, said, "Cycling and swimming are excellent ways to keep fit. This is a great idea and encourages us all to enjoy an active lifestyle, relax and see the wonderful surrounds of East Dunbartonshire - leaving the car at home."

Councillor Murray recently opened the new Wester Way active travel corridor in Bishopbriggs, which is already proving popular.

Sandy Marshall, Chair of EDLC Trust, said, "I am delighted we have been able to work with the Council to trial this innovative scheme - which rewards people who cycle with free swimming sessions. I hope it is a great success and inspires people of all ages."
