Rampaging Romans bring smiles to Kirkintilloch

A legion of rampaging Romans and a tribe of crafty Celts descended on the Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch last week as part of a day of fun and history              

Despite the inclement weather, families flocked to the museum’s excellent contribution to the Festival of Museums - an annual event coordinated by Museums Galleries Scotland to showcase Scotland’s extensive cultural offering.

Guests got the chance to meet the Antonine Guard as we2 boys holding roman remainsll as visit a small Celtic encampment as they discovered what life was really like on the Antonine Wall.

Mark Grant, General Manager of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust said, "The Rampaging Romans and Crafty Celts event proved to be a big hit with families who attended.

“Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun finding out more about our local history and taking part in some entertaining events like face painting, basket weaving and learning to write like a Roman.”Group of people dressed in roman dresswear
