Film fans flocked to Kirkintilloch Town Hall in October as it was transformed into Kirky Picture Palace, with 200 tickets snapped up for each of the three screenings.

The thrilling new initiative was launched by Your Kirky - aka Kirkintilloch Community Council - following local consultation and proved an instant smash.

The next Kirky Picture Palace event takes place on Saturday 14 December and there are exciting plans for a pre-Christmas cracker of a day.

Tickets have already sold out for two screenings of Frozen 2, with limited seats available for romantic comedy Last Christmas and Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life.

And if that news isn't enough to put the pop into your corn, then how about this exclusive silver screen announcement - Kirky Picture Palace aims to be back in 2020 with new films every month!

As well as enjoying movie magic, patrons can purchase 'tuck shop' sweets and refreshments, and there will be a licensed bar for over-18s.

Nigel Rooke, from Your Kirky, said, "Excitement is building as we prepare for the next instalment of Kirky Picture Palace. Support your local cinema this Kirkymas!

"Tickets for Frozen 2 went like hotcakes - forgive the pun - so if you want to secure your seat for either Last Christmas or It's a Wonderful Life, you better not freeze.

"I'm delighted to announce plans to show movies monthly in 2020 - bringing the newest films to one of the most iconic venues in East Dunbartonshire.

"A huge thank-you to everyone who has helped to make this dream a reality - from the unsung heroes behind the scenes to the families flocking to buy tickets."

Your Kirky has been working with East Dunbartonshire Council and other partners including East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (which operates Kirkintilloch Town Hall), Regional Screen Scotland and INDY Cinema Group.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Council's Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said, "Well done to everyone involved in Kirky Picture Palace, which is proving a fantastic initiative for the town and East Dunbartonshire.

"The last event was a great success and it was fantastic to see Kirkintilloch Town Hall filled with so many happy families - all enjoying themselves in such an amazing venue.

"It's also brilliant for the town centre - attracting hundreds of people into Kirkintilloch, helping local businesses and displaying fantastic community spirit."
