On Tuesday night (24 September) the Council's Planning Board agreed to notify Scottish Ministers of its intention to grant planning permission to build a new Early Learning & Childcare Centre (ELCC) in Bearsden.
Simultaneously, the Planning Board agreed to grant Conservation Consent for the demolition of the former Brookwood Library in Drymen Road, Bearsden.
The Council and its delivery partner, hub West Scotland, lodged the planning application via architect Holmes Miller.
Joint Leader, Councillor Vaughan Moody said, "Like the decision recently to grant permission for new centres in Kirkintilloch and Milngavie, the Council is now progressing plans for a new ELCC in Bearsden."
Joint Leader, Councillor Andrew Polson, added, "This is an important step forward in enabling us to deliver 1140 hours of funded and flexible childcare for all 3-5 year olds in East Dunbartonshire by 2020."
At a meeting of Council on Thursday (26 September), elected members approved funding and gave the go-ahead to proceed to contract as early as possible as regards construction of the ELCC - subject to Scottish Government approval.
