Provost Alan Brown was joined by pupils and invited guests as he officially opened the new Thomas Muir Primary School and adjoining Cleddens Early Learning and Childcare Centre (CEL&CC) at a special ceremony on Thursday, 22 June 2017.

With the help of Fateh from P4, Kenzie from P5 and pre-schooler Sophia from CEL&CC, Provost Brown unveiled the plaques declaring the new facilities open.

Councillors, teachers, Council officers, building partners and parents attended the event to mark the opening of the fourth new building to be delivered through the Council’s £48m Primary School Improvement Programme (PSIP) with its development partner hubWest Scotland.

Thomas Muir Primary School, which is built on the site of the former Woodhill Primary in Bishopbriggs, has brought together pupils from Woodhill and Auchinairn Primary Schools, as well as the children from CEL&CC who share the purpose built building.

Provost Brown said, “It was an honour to open this fantastic £12.4m facility which provides an improved learning environment for the young people of Bishopbriggs and Auchinairn.  It has flexible, open spaces, covered outdoor education areas and boasts the very latest in technology with the inclusion of LCD touchscreens as well as Wi-Fi throughout the building.  Likewise, the CEL&CC, with its bright, airy spaces, colourful décor and resources is such a great environment in which pre-schoolers can learn and play.

“It is wonderful to see in action how well the new school has come together to create the community of Thomas Muir Primary School in partnership with CEL&CC.  My thanks go to the Head Teacher, Head of Centre, teaching staff, parents and pupils for doing such a fantastic job in ensuring a smooth transition.”

Chief Executive Officer of hubWest Scotland, Iain Marley, said, “Thomas Muir Primary School, a challenging tandem build project, was delivered on time for our partner East Dunbartonshire Council. hWS partnership with the Council is highly valued and continues to grow and be strengthened through the delivery of such high quality and outstanding new facilities provided for the residents of East Dunbartonshire.”

Provost Brown, continued, “The official opening ceremony was a momentous occasion that brought together everyone involved in the successful construction of this building.  It was wonderful that the children played a large part in the proceedings as guests were treated to outstanding musical performances by the CEL&CC choir, the school choir and musicians.  It was a great evening and I’d like to thank everyone involved for their contribution.”
