the electoral commissionThe countdown to the Scottish Parliamentary Elections on Thursday 6 May 2021 has officially begun with the publication of the Notice of Election for the Strathkelvin & Bearsden constituency.

It is now available on the Council's website.

From tomorrow (16 March), anyone who is considering standing as a candidate in the election, is invited to lodge their nominations papers.

Blank nomination papers can be provided by the Election Office, East Dunbartonshire Council HQ, 12 Strathkelvin Place, Kirkintilloch, G66 1TJ from Monday to Friday between 10am-4pm. Please email electionteam@eastdunbarton.gov.uk to make an appointment.

Completed nomination papers must be returned by 4pm on Wednesday 31 March 2021 to the same address and again an appointment must be made by email.

For anyone hoping to vote on 6 May, you should make sure that you are registered to vote. It takes just 5 minutes to apply online at Register to vote [opens in a new window] The deadline is Monday 19 April.

There are three ways to vote in May - in person, by post or by proxy. Find out more about your voting options on the Electoral Commission website.

It will be safe to vote at polling stations but if you prefer to apply for a postal vote, you must do so by 5pm on Tuesday 6 April 2021. To apply to vote by post, you need to download, print and fill in a postal vote application form.

If you were registered to vote in the last election and your details haven't changed, you don’t need to do anything. If in doubt, or if you have any questions about your vote, you can contact the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 980 0471 or by email at ero-edc@dab-vjb.gov.uk.

Returning Officer, Gerry Cornes, said, "Preparations are well underway for the May elections with a particular emphasis on making the whole process safe for voters, candidates and election staff. We are taking account of all public health guidance in relation to Covid- 19 so everyone can have confidence that all safeguards will be in place.

"We look forward to hearing from prospective candidates and the Election Team is available to answer any questions they may have about any part of the process.

"I'd like to remind everyone to make sure you are registered to vote. Now is the time to check it out so that you can have your say in May and make your vote count."
