Nominations sought for 2017 Peter Buchanan Award for Personal Endeavour

As the Peter Buchanan Award for 2017 is launched the search begins for local young people who, through exceptional determination and effort, have overcome significant challenges in their lives.
 
The Council is seeking nominations from local groups, schools, families and friends of any young person (13 to19yrs) whose hard work, determination and courage deserve to be recognised.
 
The award was created to honour the life of former Council Project Officer, Peter Buchanan who worked with local youngsters and died unexpectedly in July 2011.
 
Peter was a much respected member of the Council project Positive Achievements which works to support young people secure employment and training opportunities.                          
 
Last year’s joint winners –as it was too tough to call – were Holly Reid from St. Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch and  Angus Semple, a former Bishopbriggs Academy pupil.
 
Holly’s award was in recognition of her huge commitment to supporting community work in her village where she gives tirelessly of her free time. School House Captain Angus, who lives with Asperger’s Syndrome and OCD, made a lasting impression on those around him by mentoring younger pupils.
 
Launching the 2017 Award, Council Leader Gordan Low said, “Whatever it is that a young person in your life has done to inspire you and those around them, we want to hear about it. Nominating them is straightforward.
 
“The winner will be presented with their Award at a special ceremony at the end of the year to celebrate their success and that of dozens of other local young people who attend the Council’s Positive Achievements project.”
