Next steps for new Auchinairn Community Facility

At its meeting last night (Thursday 10 November) East Dunbartonshire Council agreed to proceed to the detailed design stage for the new Community facility being developed as part of the wider Auchinairn Place approach.

Residents attended an information event on the purpose-built community and early years facility at the end of last month to see the latest design proposals and find out more about the type of facilities it will offer. The layout of the site had been revised following the removal of the football club element of the initial design considerations, following the withdrawal of Glasgow City Football Club from the development.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said, “Moving to the detailed design and tender stage for the fabulous new facility we are proposing in Auchinairn is welcome progress.  From the feedback we have received to date, we firmly believe that the nursery and community centre will be well used and will become a central part of community life in the area.”

The revised site layout and re-design, omitting the previously included Glasgow City Ladies FC requirements and shared locally at the recent information event, show that the new facility will deliver a modern early years nursery and new community centre with associated landscaping, access and parking.

The adjusted building size and new location within the site also removes the need to provide temporary nursery facilities during the build stage – the nursery can remain within its current accommodation until the new facility is completed.

The detailed design, statutory consents and market testing undertaken during this next phase will inform the final programme for the build, which will be presented to a future Council meeting for approval. Stakeholder engagement will continue throughout the next phase of the project before the detailed design is finalised.
