The Council has partnered with energy supplier E.ON and Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) on a £1.09 million project exploring the decarbonisation of home heating.

The Scottish Government have provided funding to the Council to allow eligible homeowners to have air source heat pumps, and new thermal battery and technology installed.

The funding will allow 50 off-gas homes to take part, with the successful applicants getting a major home upgrade provided they contribute up to £3,000 towards it – a heavily discounted rate of around 85%.

E.ON will deliver the project, which will look at how the decarbonisation of heating can be undertaken across the region and will help to inform the Council’s upcoming Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy.

It will also support the objectives of the Council’s emerging Climate Action Plan, which, in part, aims to decarbonise buildings across East Dunbartonshire to reduce emissions and help to tackle fuel poverty.

Residents can get information about the project, including how to apply as well as advice on how to reduce energy bills, at an event hosted by E.ON on Thursday 18 August at Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre. Two sessions are available – from 1pm to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm.

Residents can pre-book a slot with one of the experts by calling E.ON on 0333 202 4877, by visiting Eon Reheat or by simply dropping in on the day.

Home Energy Scotland, which can offer loans to help pay for energy efficiency home improvements, will also attend.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, the Council’s Convenor of Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets, said, “We are one of three local authorities in Scotland taking part in this pilot, which aims to help cut emissions and costs across homes and local communities.

“The sessions being hosted by E.ON are a great way for people to learn more and gain expert advice. It's important that our residents know as much as possible about eligibility and the long-term benefits of this technology. Please go along and find out more."
