A pioneering project has scooped a prestigious award for promotion of walking, cycling and use of public transport.

Milngavie Station Travel Hub recently won a Scottish Transport Award for Excellence in Walking & Public Realm.

The East Dunbartonshire Council project includes:

•         Major public realm improvements

•         Bus priority measures and improved facilities

•         Better pedestrian access

•         Increased parking and improved layout

•         High-quality new surfacing

•         Enhanced street furniture and facilities

•         Improved planting and landscaping.

The new hub makes it easier to connect journeys whether you are travelling by train, bike, bus or car. It also creates a welcoming gateway to the town centre – encouraging footfall.

Funding was secured by the Council from Transport Scotland’s Bus Investment Fund and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Councillor Susan Murray, Vice Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, said, “I am pleased that the Council has received national recognition for investment and improvements in the Milngavie Station area.

“The project has made pedestrian movement a priority, while boosting parking facilities and encouraging more people to make greater use of public transport.

"The investment is part of a wider scheme to encourage greater active travel movement and economic opportunities in Milngavie.”

Milngavie Station Travel Hub was also shortlisted for Integrated Transport Project of the Year at the Scottish Transport Awards.
