A team of four quiz brains from Millersneuk Primary in Lenzie has won the Council-wide heats of the annual Euroquiz competition and will go on to represent EastCllr Williamson (left) and Provost Renwick with the winning team from Millersneuk Primary. Dunbartonshire in the national finals.

The P6 pupils took on 28 teams from schools across the area in the quiz and came up trumps with their knowledge of all things European. They will face 32 other teams from all parts of Scotland when they attend the national finals at the McEwan Hall in Edinburgh on Monday 10 June 2024.

The quiz is organised by the Council’s Education Service and the Scottish European Educational Trust, with support from the European Parliament Office in the UK. Questions cover topics such as history, geography, culture, European affairs, general knowledge and pupils’ knowledge of French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Runners-up in the East Dunbartonshire heats this year were Craigdhu Primary in Milngavie.

Convener of the Council’s Education Committee, Lynda Williamson helped to host the quiz, which was held at Douglas Academy in Milngavie, and she was impressed by the knowledge on display.

She said, “I am genuinely blown away by the knowledge and the language skills of the children in East Dunbartonshire who take part in the Euroquiz each year. Every member of every team had clearly worked very hard to prepare for this year’s competition and each competitor and their teachers should be very proud of themselves.

"Well done to everyone who took part but special congratulations to the winners - Millersneuk Primary - and also to Craigdhu Primary who were runners up. I have every faith that Millersneuk Primary will do us proud at the national finals, I wish them the very best of luck and look forward to cheering them on!”
