East Dunbartonshire Council is reminding its residents that its Household Waste Recycling Centre at Mavis Valley is open for business ̱ and now for extended summer hours. The Council's transfer station ̱ where Council vehicles and businesses dump rubbish will close on Tuesday 7 April. Businesses will no longer be able to buy tonnage for this site. East Dunbartonshire Council has written to all its commercial customers to explain the changes and notify them they can use the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Mavis Valley until current tonnage has been exhausted, but will now need to separate their waste on site. Councillor Ashay Ghai, depute leader of the Council and convenor of Neighbourhood Services, said: "We want to let the public know that they will not be affected by the changes and will still be able to use our Household Waste Recycling Centre at Mavis Valley. "Now that we are officially in British Summer Time, the hours will also be extended to 8am-7.30pm Monday-Friday and 9am-6.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. The centre is particularly well used and we hope that this continues.̨ The Balmuildy Road site can be used for the recycling and disposal of household and garden waste. As well as recycling banks for paper, glass bottles and jars, cans, car oil, batteries, textiles, wood, fridges and rubble waste. The site is open every day, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 1 and 2 January. Although the site is extremely well used it does suffer from abuse by those seeking to dispose of trade or commercial waste free of charge. Not only is this illegal but it means that the Council tax payer is subsidising the profits of private business by funding the cost of disposal of this type of waste. The majority of this waste is delivered in commercial type vans or trailers and access to these types of vehicles is restricted as a result of safe traffic management controls. The site van and trailer time restrictions will still apply. Vans and trailers can only access the site Monday to Friday between 8am-10am and 4pm-5pm, Saturday and Sunday between 9am-11am and 4pm-6pm.
