More than 100 young swimmers were up against the clock when they took part in the time trials for the Scottish Schools’ Swimming Championships at the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs on Saturday 18 November.

Organised by the EDLC Trust’s Swimming Development Team, the time trial event attracted young people from 14 primary and secondary schools in East Dunbartonshire.

Of the 119 competitors, 50 made the qualifying time for the Championships which will take place in January 2018 at Tollcross International Swim Centre.swimming in lanes

Sandy Marshall, Chair of the East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust, said, “There was a lot of excitement at the time trials this year, with so many talented swimmers keen to make it to the championships early next year.  It is wonderful to see so many young people so dedicated to their sport and training very hard to improve their times.  I was very impressed and I wish all the finalists the very best of luck.”

Convener  of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, Jim Gibbons, added, “All these young swimmers worked very hard to get to this stage of the competition, so well done to them, their coaches and everyone who supports them in their training.  I know the commitment needed for swimming training by the athletes and their families, it is a sport that requires a great deal of dedication.  This effort has paid off for many of East Dunbartonshire’s young swimmers as they go through to the finals – I look forward to hearing how they get on in January.”

The Trust’s Swimming Development Team would like to thank, Milngavie & Bearsden Swimming Club, City of Glasgow Swim Team, Kirkintilloch & Kilsyth Swim Team and Scotia Swim Team for their help in running the event.
