Christmas tree and gift boxes
When all the festive fun is over, be a Christmas star and recycle your Christmas tree and tinsel-free cards.

That’s the message to green-minded East Dunbartonshire residents who are being encouraged to help the environment during the festive period.

From Friday 4 January 2019 you can dispose of your tree in a skip at these locations:

  • Allander Sports Centre, Bearsden
  • William Patrick Library car park, Kirkintilloch
  • Mavis Valley Recycling Centre, Bishopbriggs.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Council’s Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, is urging all residents to make recycling their New Year resolution for 2019.

He said, "The festive period is usually a time for reflection and this year I'd urge all residents to give some thought to how they can recycle more in 2019.

"We all need to recycle as much as we possibly can as we work towards achieving the Scottish Government Zero Waste target of 60% recycling by 2020.

"That's why we are making it as easy as possible to recycle your real Christmas tree, which stops them being needlessly sent to landfill.

"If you're not able to take it to one of the recycling points, just call the Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 4510 and one of our agents will arrange for your Christmas tree or a one-off collection of your garden waste bin to be picked up free of charge during the week beginning 14 January.

"Remember, you can recycle your Christmas cards, too. These can be placed in the blue bin with paper and card."
