Let there be lights! Christmas lights switch-ons start this week

A variety of Christmas lights switch-on events are taking place in local communities.Lennoxtown PTA Christmas leaflet

This year's festive illumination celebrations are being led by the community, with support from the Council as regards supply of the festive lights, power supply, officer time and trees where appropriate.

  • Celtic FC Manager Brendan Rodgers and Cllr John Dempsey will be switching on the lights in Lennoxtown at 5pm on Friday 25 November - tying in with a Christmas Fayre courtesy of Lennoxtown Primary School PTA from 5pm-8pm. There will be choir music from 4.40pm, Santa's Grotto and stalls.
     
  • Bishopbriggs town centre Christmas lights switch-on takes place on Thursday 24 November at Morrisons - at 5pm. Santa's Grotto takes place in the library from 5.15pm-6.15pm, with a variety of festive cheer on offer - including performances by local school choirs at the switch-on and at the library. There will also be funfair rides, as well as Christmas eats and treats from 4pm-6pm.Regent Centre Christmas fun day poster
     
  • Kirkintilloch Christmas fun day takes place on Saturday 26 November - from noon-8pm. There will be live music and entertainment in Regent Gardens and the Regent Centre, with a funfair all day on Cowgate. The main lights will be switched on at 5pm, followed by fireworks (weather permitting). Santa and Heart FM will be there and there will be a free raffle prize draw, face-painting and more.
     
  • Milngavie St Andrew’s Festival and Christmas Lights Switch-On takes place on Saturday 3 December from noon-6.30pm. There will be lights, kids attractions, Disney characters, music, food, dancing, pipe band parade and more. The lights will be switched on at 6.30pm
     
  • The Mugdock Christmas Fayre and lights switch-on take place on Friday 25 November - from 5pm-8pm. The lights will be switched on at 6pm and there will be a range of attractions - including children's rides, local choir, face-painting, arts and crafts, and late-night shopping. In addition, the ‘Friends of Mugdock’ scheme will be launched. Becoming a member will help to support the park in future developments and also provide the card holder with exclusive benefits within all the businesses.

  • Torrance on Friday 25 November at 7pm (community council event)
     
  • Bearsden on Friday 2 December at 5pm (Christmas tree lights)
