A new and improved boardwalk and path network is coming soon to Lenzie Moss to provide better access for all visitors to the nature reserve.
The existing boardwalk, built in 2005, is much-loved by local people and visitors alike, who flock to Lenzie Moss to enjoy its natural surroundings.
And now the popular walkway is set to be completely revamped as part of a project funded by the Council’s Cycling, Walking and Safer Routes allocation from Transport Scotland and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
In order for the existing boardwalk to be removed and a new one to be installed, the boardwalk will be closed from Monday 15 August until Monday 12 December. This will also allow for additional improvements to be carried out to the path works.
Two sections of the existing paths - covering approximately 1350m - will be upgraded as part of the project. The first section will cover the path from the entrance of Heather Drive and will link with the main path that runs to Blackthorn Grove. The second section will see work carried out on the path that runs from the entrance to Lenzie Railway Station car park along the northern boundary of the railway line to the boardwalk.
Due to the nature of the project and extent of improvements, the closure is unavoidable and there will be no access for the public.
Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets, said, "Lenzie Moss is a local treasure and the Council is committed to its improvement and maintenance so that future generations can continue to enjoy it.
"The new boardwalk will provide easier and safer access to the Moss for people of all ages and abilities. It will form part of a circular route around the Moss - which is home to numerous birds and wildlife - and is designed to protect the valuable habitats beneath it.
"The project will unfortunately involve the temporary closure of the boardwalk. The Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause residents and I'd like to thank them in advance for their patience and understanding as we upgrade this popular pathway."
