Joint Council Leaders Councillor Vaughan Moody and Councillor Andrew Polson respond to the Scottish Government’s announcement on further measures being implemented across Scotland to control the spread of Covid-19:

Councillor Polson said, “The continuing increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 across the whole of the UK has been deeply concerning and is a harsh reminder of the continued impact of the virus on our lives.  This pandemic is far from over and it is essential that all of us immediately follow these additional measures, along with the measures already in place, to control the spread of this virus and protect lives.  It is hugely challenging to not be allowed to meet with our friends and families in our own homes, but all of us have a responsibility to take this action to curb the increasing spread.  As has already been stressed, by taking this action now and making it work, we can hopefully avoid more serious restrictions having to be introduced.

Councillor Moody added, “It is clear from the data that more action is needed to curb the increasing rise in Covid-19 cases seen in recent weeks, and we must all follow these further measures to reduce infection rates.  They strike a balance between supporting our local hospitality sector and keeping us all safe.  I’d like to urge all our businesses locally to follow the latest rules and to thank them for their efforts to date.  We all have a role to play to keep Covid-19 in check.  Our Environmental Health team have played an important role in inspections and enforcement throughout this pandemic and we await the detail on the additional resources announced to support this important part of our Covid-19 response.
