East Dunbartonshire’s Provost, Alan Brown, welcomed guests to the ‘Kirkin’ of the Council’ on Sunday (29 October), a service traditionally held following the election of a new council to dedicate councillors and officers to public service.

The service was held in Cadder Church in Bishopbriggs and was attended by Councillors, Senior Council Officers, and representatives from the Community Planning Partnership in East Dunbartonshire.

Provost Brown said, “The Kirkin’ is a special tradition which brings together many of the area’s public servants in a service that dedicates them to public office. The church was very busy and Rev John MacGregor delivered a thoughtful and reflective service.  I would like to thank him, the Kirk Session and the congregation at Cadder Church for their warm welcome.”

The service was conducted by Rev John MacGregor of Cadder Church and readings were given by Depute Council Leader, Gillian Renwick and Councillor Jim Goodall.  It was followed by refreshments in Cadder North Hall.

Rev MacGregor said, “It`s an important service recognising the blessings that can come from church and council working harmoniously together to serve our local communities.”

Provost Brown added, “Working in local government is about serving local people and the Kirkin’ service gave us all an opportunity to reflect on our roles and responsibilities during this Council term.”
