Invite to take part in town centre workshops

Date:
Monday, 17 October, 2016

Workshops are being held to help guide the future for Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Milngavie town centres.

The Council is preparing strategies for each of the town centres and wants to hear from residents, businesses and groups. We want to know your views on the issues and opportunities for improvement.

An online survey is live until Wednesday 30 November - at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MMBCKCF - and a number of workshops are taking place:

  • Bearsden – Tuesday 8 November at Bearsden Academy, 6.30pm-8.15pm
  • Bishopbriggs – Wednesday 16 November at Bishopbriggs Memorial Hall, 6.30pm-8.15pm
  • Milngavie – Thursday 17 November at the Fraser Centre (Milngavie Precinct), 6.30pm-8.15pm.

People with an interest in the future of the town centres are invited to get involved in the workshops.

The events will be using the 'Place Standard' tool to explore the current strengths, weaknesses and requirements requirements of each centre.

If you want to attend please send an e-mail to development.plan@eastdunbarton.gov.uk to book a place.

Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development and Regeneration, said, "This is a vital time for our town centres and if we are to ensure their long-term viability and vitality then we need as many people as possible to get involved.

"We would like to hear from residents, businesses, groups and anyone with a keen interest in shaping local town centres.

"The workshops and survey will provide us with a good platform to take forward strategies for each of the town centres, which we are aiming to publish as drafts next year.

"The plans will set out a positive, long-term vision for each town centre and specific future actions.

"I would encourage everyone with an interest in Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Milngavie town centres to complete the online survey and to take part in the workshops if they have time."

The Council will also be engaging directly with town centre partners and other relevant groups as part of the preparation of each strategy.

In the first instance, the focus is on Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Milngavie as Kirkintilloch has an on-going Master-plan.

The strategies tie in with the Proposed Local Development Plan and the Council’s forthcoming Economic Development Strategy.

Visit www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/town-centre-strategies-consultation and www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MMBCKCF to get involved. The closing date for the survey is Wednesday 30 November.
