Council employees are driving down vehicle carbon emissions in East Dunbartonshire having recently completed FuelGood Driver Training.

Thirty-four employees who regularly drive as part of their role received the training delivered by driver coaching and development company Chequered Flag and funded by the Scottish Government’s air quality programme.

During the sessions employees had their normal driving style assessed before being coached in FuelGood driving techniques.  They were also given professional advice on how to drive in a more fuel efficient manner.  All the recipients took the driving techniques and advice on board and saw significant reductions in vehicle fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, Councillor Billy Hendry, said, “The delivery of FuelGood Driver Training Sessions to Council employees is the latest example of the Council’s continued commitment to improve local air quality in East Dunbartonshire and it is hoped that further sessions will be offered later this year. The Council has also been engaging with heavy goods vehicles and bus operators in the area to sign up to the Eco-stars Fleet Management Programme, which helps fleet operators improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, make cost savings and reduce environmental impact."

Cllr Hendry added, “Local people can also play their part by reducing unnecessary car journeys, switching off their engines whilst stationary or walking and cycling more.  By working together we can continue to improve air quality across all of East Dunbartonshire.”
