Notes from the Wood by Barbara Sellars opened alongside the annual Glasgow Society of Women Artists exhibition on Saturday 28 September and both will run for a month.

Barbara Sellar’s collection of images was made over a period of four years and features scenes which caught the artist’s eye. As a photographer, she creates images that reflect her love of the natural world, particularly trees, flowers and the coast.

She describes the 39 images captured as “curious forms, fleeting impressions, seasonal change and a sense of the intrinsic grace and beauty of the wood. Underlying them is a long- time fascination with the woodland realm, both real and imaginary”.

The eye-catching images include scenes of Mugdock Wood, the oak woods by Loch Lomond and a pocket of temperate rainforest on Mull.

Running at the same time is an exhibition by the Glasgow Society of Women Artists which includes exciting new work from the long established society. The exhibition features work from artists such as Lesley Banks from Bishopbriggs, GSWA President Catherine King and Anne Morrison, who is a skilled and respected ceramic artist from Bearsden. The 150 works in the show include both traditional and dynamic abstract works in a wide range of mediums.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Council's Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said, "We are delighted to welcome these two exhibitions to the Lillie Art Gallery and I would encourage people to come along and appreciate the works on show for themselves."

Sandy Marshall, Chair of EDLC Trust, said, "Notes from the Wood very much captures the zeitgeist. Awareness of the natural world and its fragility has never been more important and this collection of Barbara Sellars’ work evokes an appreciation of our environment.

"The Glasgow Society of Women Artists is a well-established and highly regarded society which continues to showcase talent in all mediums and styles year after year."

Notes from the Wood by Barbara Sellars and Glasgow Society of Women Artists exhibition will both run at the Lillie Art Gallery until Thursday 31 October. For more information, call the gallery on 0141 956 5536 or visit www.edlc.co.uk
