Thursday, 1 December, 2016

East Dunbartonshire Council has published draft guidance on new developments in East Dunbartonshire - and local people are being invited to have a say.

The draft document – Natural Environment - gives further information and detail on policies set out in Proposed East Dunbartonshire Local Development Plan (LDP).

When approved, the guidance will be used to help determine planning applications.

The guidance document was agreed at a meeting of the Development and Regeneration Committee earlier this year.

You can access a copy of the documents by visiting the webpage.

Comments can be made between 1 December 2016 and 11 January 2017 - simply complete the online comments form.

Alternatively, copies of the documents are available at Council Community Hubs and libraries. Comments can be posted to Land Planning Policy Team, East Dunbartonshire Council, Southbank House, 1 Strathkelvin Place, Kirkintilloch, G66 1XH.

Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development and Regeneration, said, "I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to view the guidance and provide feedback.

"The aim is that - after the findings of public consultation are taken into consideration - this document will be approved by the Council, and will inform future decisions on planning applications.

"The guidance will help applicants and the public understand the Council’s expectations and requirements for protecting and enhancing landscape character and nature conservation in new developments, and how this will be done."

The LDP aims to encourage new development designs which have a positive effect on the surrounding area and create a high-quality, sustainable place.

The guidance provides information on the biodiversity, geodiversity, landscape character and specific soils of interest in East Dunbartonshire. It also sets out procedures on how this will be taken into account when considering development proposals. Applicants will be encouraged to refer to this guidance at an early opportunity to consider natural environment requirements, constraints and opportunities for new developments.
