Grow for it and find out more about cultivating your own fruit and veg

People are being urged to grow for it at this year's Kirkintilloch Canal Festival … and develop an appetite for producing their own fruit and veg.

Work has been taking place on a Food Growing Strategy for East Dunbartonshire, with engagement events in May and June, as well as an online survey.

Officers from the Council and 'greenspace scotland' will be providing information and gathering views at Kirkintilloch Canal Festival on Sunday 20 August - from noon until 5pm at Barleybank car park.

The aim is to give people a chance to share their views and aspirations for food growing, and sow the seeds for future local projects.

Councillor Jim Gibbons, Convener of Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets, said, "Council officers will be at the Canal Festival to speak to people about plans to improve food-growing rates and increase opportunities.

"It's also a chance for East Dunbartonshire residents to contribute to the Food Growing Strategy and the wider food-growing agenda.

"I hope as many people as possible stop by the stall and find out more about the potential opportunities and support for food-growing projects in East Dunbartonshire."

There will be information available and examples of successful projects, benefits and potential opportunities. Visitors will also be able to try their hand at seed planting and sample some freshly-grown produce.

The forthcoming Food Growing Strategy is a requirement of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.
