Probationer Geography Teacher, Frazer Satti, has a promising career ahead of him after being selected as East Dunbartonshire’s exemplary probationer this year.

Frazer was nominated by East Dunbartonshire Council to attend the General Teacher Council for Scotland ‘Celebration of Exemplary Probationers’ event in Edinburgh this summer after a very successful year at St Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch.

Along with 32 outstanding probationer teachers from across Scotland, Frazer was presented with his certificate of full registration by Deputy First Minister, John Swinney.

East Dunbartonshire’s Education Committee Convener, Councillor Mohrag Fischer, said, “Each year the Council nominates one of our probationer teachers to represent it at this event as our exemplary probationer. Frazer has worked exceptionally hard and shown huge dedication during his probationary year at St Ninian’s High School.  I’m delighted to say that he will be staying at the school to build on the excellent start he has made. I am sure he will go on to have an extremely rewarding and fulfilling career in teaching.”

Some of Frazer’s achievements at St Ninian’s High School include:

  • Developing new courses of work for pupils in S1, S2 and S3 including resources and course schematics
  • Developing the resources for National 5 Travel and Tourism
  • Developing the use of digital technologies throughout the school as part of the Teaching and Learning team and hosting a workshop during the inset day on Microsoft Classroom
  • Organising a residential weekend in Kindrogan for the advanced higher class
  • Organising the Christmas Fayre and being a member of the Social Committee who helped to arrange staff events
  • Managing ‘Heart Start’ lessons to all pupils in S3 to ensure that the young people learned the skills necessary to preserve life
  • Running a number of extra-curricular clubs – introducing a golf club for pupils and organising the press group
  • Arranging the senior prize-giving ceremony
  • Running a workshop at the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Fraser’s commitment to the profession and high profile extends beyond the community of St Ninian’s. He was invited to present to the 2017-18 cohort of newly qualified teachers in East Dunbartonshire last month and did so with confidence, enthusiasm and a real willingness to contribute to supporting his colleagues on entry to the profession. He managed competing demands on his time to develop and deliver a presentation that was warmly welcomed and highly evaluated by his peers.

Headteacher of St Ninian’s High School, Paul McLaughlin, was delighted that Frazer was nominated for East Dunbartonshire and that he will be continuing his career at the school.

He said, “Frazer exceeded the challenge of the probationary year and has been a real asset to the geography department and the entire school community.  During his time here there was a lengthy staff absence within the geography department and Frazer rose to the challenge of teaching geography across all levels, delivering lessons that were engaging and well thought out.  As well as having a huge commitment to his department, Frazer fully immersed himself in the life of the school by becoming a member of the PTA and the eco-group and running a number of extra-curricular clubs.  He has a high-profile at school and is well-thought of by pupils and teachers alike.”

Mr McLaughlin continued, “Frazer has fully embraced his chosen vocation and in the short time he has been with us at St Ninian’s he has had a hugely positive impact on our young people. He will be a tremendous asset to the school and we are all very pleased that he is staying with us.”
