Good news for young swimmers as swimming lessons return

swimmingChildren across East Dunbartonshire have been making a splash now that swimming lessons are returning across the area.

Almost 1,000 youngsters will return to lessons (Levels 1-8) at Allander Leisure Centre, Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre and The Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs and the staff can't wait to see them all again.

EDLC staff are currently working on a return date for Adult & Child lessons which have been delayed due to social distancing requirements.  Once confirmed, swimming development will email customers who booked last March with options available.

Although the timetable has had to be adjusted and there are restrictions and covid-19 management measures in place, the pools are back to life once again.

Feedback from families on social media has been positive with one parent saying, "My child is so excited to be back in the water and loving swimming lessons" and another adding "Both my children were buzzing to come back to their swimming lessons!"

Councillor Vaughan Moody, Joint Leader of the Council and Chair of the East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust, said, "This feels like a hugely important step for everyone involved as we know how important exercise and water safety is for young people. Add in a heap of fun and it's easy to see why our pools are so popular.

"Trust staff have worked very hard to make this happen and I know that they are so happy to be welcoming visitors to the centres once more and teachers are delighted to be working with the children again. They have created a safe environment and I would ask everyone to be patient and follow the rules and guidance that are in place."

Lessons are full just now but please check the website for updates if you're looking for a space [opens in a new window]. If you have any enquiries, please email: swimming@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
