Good causes in the heart of local communities were among the winners at the 2016 East Dunbartonshire Business Awards.

An amazing £8,000 was raised on the night of the final thanks to generosity of businesses, entrepreneurs, organisations and enterprises who contributed to the raffle and auction.

Proceeds have now been split evenly - £800 each - between a variety of good causes helping local communities:

  • The Park Centre
  • East Dunbartonshire Women's Aid
  • The David Philips Crooks Fund
  • The Calum Sinclair Macleod Forever Fund
  • The Emma Cameron Foundation
  • Contact Point in East Dunbartonshire
  • Strathkelvin Talking Newspaper Association
  • Carers Link East Dunbartonshire
  • Generations Working Together (EDVA)
  • Milngavie in Bloom

The final of the 2016 East Dunbartonshire Business Awards was held on Friday 20 May at The Eagle Lodge, Bishopbriggs, and a key part of the evening was the raising of funds for a variety of charities and organisations.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said, "Once again I've been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone involved in the awards. It's genuinely inspirational and will make a huge difference to a range of local groups and charities.

"The support for the fundraising raffle and auction was incredible - both on the night of the final and also in the run-up to the event, when a range of prizes and donations were received from businesses, organisations and individuals.

"I would like to say a sincere thank-you to everyone who contributed to the amazing amount raised. It's heartening to see local businesses continue to support good causes despite the wider economic challenges.

"The annual awards celebrate local success stories, but it is also appropriate to recognise the unsung heroes working for charities and organisations in East Dunbartonshire.

"Every penny raised will be used to support good causes at the heart of communities across East Dunbartonshire."

Thanks are also given to local businessman Robert Wilson, who was auctioneer for the evening.

The Business Award sponsors included Alarmfast, CMS Windows, Highland Spring, Martin Veterinary Centre, The Eagle Lodge, Morgan Sindall, Grafton Merchanting, Rainton Construction, Xerox (UK), Kenwil and East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Association.

Thanks to all who contributed to the raffle - including McKenna Heating, Rixonway Kitchens, Aerial Vision, AC Electrics, Craigmarloch Nurseries, Kirsty Chisholm, Huntershill Village, Billington's of Lenzie, Gartshore Village, Caulders Garden Centre, Ewing Somerville Partnership, Spirit of Alba, Peugeot, MugStock Festival, Smiths Hotel, and the GMB, Unite, EIS and Unison trade unions.
