The new term got off to a flying start for pupils and teachers at Wester Cleddens Primary in Bishopbriggs as they celebrated receiving a glowing report from Education Scotland.

Inspectors visited the school in April and their report, published just ahead of the summer break, highlights the very good practice they found within the school.

The inspection was based on new quality indicators which set a very high standard and Wester Cleddens achieved ‘very good’ and ‘good’ across the board. Following their visit, the inspectors listed the school’s key strengths in their report as:

  • The leadership, drive and unswerving personal commitment of the headteacher to ensuring the very best for the children
  • The sense of community and common purpose across the school encouraged by staff who work very well as a team to create a positive ethos and stimulating learning environment
  • Courteous, respectful children who have a positive attitude to learning
  • Highly effective approaches to inclusion, wellbeing and equality that result in children feeling very well supported and able to achieve.

Councillor Mohrag Fischer, Convener of the Council’s Education Committee, met the staff and children at the school to congratulate them on the excellent news.

She said, “There is much to be proud of in this report and everyone within the school community – teachers, support staff, pupils, parents and carers - should be feeling delighted about what they have achieved and the work that they are doing.

“I was particularly pleased to see the report recognise the work of the headteacher and her staff to promote inclusion so that no child is left behind but is helped to achieve their potential. This has the effect of making young people interested and engaged in their lessons which was also picked up by the inspectors.

“I was delighted to visit the school and to see for myself just how positive and welcoming a place it is. Well done to everyone at Wester Cleddens Primary School.”
