Street football programmeFriday nights need never be boring again for young football fans as the Council’s street football programme gets underway.

A portable playing pitch will pop up at three locations across the area over the next few months with the aim of encouraging 11-17year olds to get involved in sport on a Friday night.

The programme, being run by the Council and its partners, kicks off this month and runs every Friday (excluding Good Friday) until June, from 6.30-8.30pm. Details are as follows:

  • Friday 10 – 31 March in St. Andrew’s Primary, Duntocher Road, Bearsden (front playground)
  • Friday 7 April – 12 May (excluding Good Friday [14/4]) St. Matthew’s Primary, Park Road, Bishopbriggs (front playground)
  • Friday 19 May – 16 June in Mugdock Road car park, Milngavie (outside youth café).

This initiative is aimed at giving young people an alternative to antisocial behaviour and is supported by Sports Development, Community Safety and Police Scotland.

Councillor Leader, Rhondda Geekie, said, “This is a chance for young people to come together in a safe environment on a Friday evening, meet friends, get some exercise and have a good time.

“Our enthusiastic team is hopeful that the pop-up pitch proves popular with local youngsters. There is no need to book, please just come along and join in.”
