Car parking charges will be temporarily suspended for Kirkintilloch Canal Festival this weekend and also for the forthcoming Milngavie Food and Drink Festival.
The two Council car parks in Kirkintilloch where charging is in place – Barleybank and William Patrick Library – will be free all day on Saturday 25 August.
All Council-owned car parks are free on Sundays.
Similarly, car parking charges will be suspended for the Milngavie Food and Drink Festival.
Douglas Street, Mugdock Road, Stewart Street North and Woodburn Way in Milngavie will be free throughout Friday 31 August and Saturday 1 September.
The Council’s Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee agreed to the suspensions at a recent meeting.
Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener, said, “I am pleased we have been able to temporarily suspend parking charges for Kirkintilloch Canal Festival.
“Thousands of people will flock to the Kirkintilloch area over the weekend and it will be a great boost for the economy.
“An Economic Impact Assessment of the 2017 Festival – carried out by Caledonian Economics – found a total of £283,712 was spent locally, based on an estimated figure of 23,000 attendees.
“I am also pleased we have been able to suspend parking charges to support Milngavie Food and Drink Festival on Friday 31 August and Saturday 1 September.
“The festival – which has been organised by Milngavie Business Improvement District – involves two days of live music, live cookery demos and a wide range of first-class food and drink.”
The Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee also agreed that future applications to suspend car parking charges – to support local events and economic development activity – will be considered on an individual basis.
