As Europe’s elite road cyclists prepare to descend on Scotland for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships in August, East Dunbartonshire is getting ready to welcome them for the Cycling Time Trial.Map of cycling trial

On Wednesday 8 August, local people will have the opportunity to see some of the world’s best athletes as they take part in the high-energy time trial, which passes through the area from its start at Glasgow’s Riverside Museum to a thrilling climax on Glasgow Green.

To accommodate the fantastic spectacle, which will showcase the area to a global audience, some Council services and residents’ travel arrangements will be affected.

A series of drop-in information sessions were held across East Dunbartonshire in March and June, with more taking place in early July to answer any questions about how daily life will be impacted.

Local people are encouraged to attend and speak to race organisers to find out more about the route and what to expect on race day. The next events are:

  • Tuesday 3 July - Lennoxtown Community Hub - 2-6pm
  • Tuesday 10 July - Asda, Bearsden - 2-6pm
  • Wednesday 11 July - Milngavie Precinct - 2-6pm

There will also be a session on Saturday 7 July at Tesco St Rollox Extra, Cobden Road, St Rollox Business Park, Glasgow G21 1YL – between 2pm and 6pm.

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody said, “We are pleased to be part of the European Championships and supporting the delivery of the Cycling Time Trial. And while we recognise that there will be inconvenience to local people, we are working closely with our Glasgow 2018 partners to help people to plan for the travel limitations that will be in place on the day.”

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson added, “We can all remember the great scenes when the Commonwealth Games Time Trial came through our streets and it would be wonderful to see that happen again. We would encourage everyone who lives on or near the route to come along to an information session for guidance on how best to plan for disruption on the day.”
