Find out more about Small Business Saturday and support your town centre

Shoppers and revellers are being urged to support East Dunbartonshire businesses in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.

Small Business Saturday is on 3 December and the Council is asking local residents, workers and visitors to support firms in the community.

Christmas lights switch-on events have been taking place across East Dunbartonshire, with hundreds enjoying festive entertainment in Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs recently.

Improvement works in Kirkintilloch are forging ahead and Cowgate is now fully open again.

There will be no works during December to minimise disruption to traders and shoppers, with the final phase of improvements beginning in January 2017.

Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development and Regeneration, said, "I would urge everyone - whether they live or work in East Dunbartonshire, or whether they are just visiting - to rally round and support local businesses.

"There's a terrific range of shops and hostelries available across East Dunbartonshire - particularly in our town centres.

"The improvements in Kirkintilloch have made a huge difference and this is the perfect time to take a look for yourself, with Cowgate reopened fully.

"The Council's efforts to regenerate our town centres continue - with plans being developed for Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Milngavie."

Small Business Saturday is this weekend, with the 2016 campaign focused on encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises to become UK Government suppliers.

By 2020, the Government plans to spend one third of its goods and services budget with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), either directly or through the supply chain.
