Children in Torrance are now spinning, sliding and swinging their way through Spring, thanks to the fantastic transformation of Torrance Main Street play area.
Boasting an array of new equipment, the park design was voted for by the community and has been given the seal of approval by local children.
Councillor Paul Ferretti - Convener of the Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee - officially opened the impressive new £70k play facility, along with children from Torrance Primary School.
The new play area – which was funded by East Dunbartonshire Council Capital Funding and the Scottish Government’s Play Park Renewal Fund – includes equipment for children from toddlers up to age 12.
Councillor Ferretti said, "This is a fantastic community facility which I am sure will be much used by local children and families for many years to come.
"The quality of equipment is really superb and will provide a safe and fun environment right in the heart of the village.
"This play area was built as a direct result of a consultation involving children and residents from the Torrance area. The fact that the final design was chosen by the community means that all the young people who participated can feel a sense of ownership over the playpark."
Children at Torrance Primary School were given the opportunity to choose their favourite design last year. The wider community was also invited to vote at a drop-in event last November.
The new playpark replaces the original one which dated to 1979 and included just a small set of swings and a rocking horse.
The fabulous new facility is now spread over two levels and includes three different types of swings plus a jungle-themed central climbing frame which includes a slide and gymnastics rings.
In addition, there is a new and improved rocking horse, a rotator, rotation log, dish roundabout and springer hedgehog. A bright new safety surface has also been installed as well as a bench for parents and carers and fencing around the area for the younger children.
