People of all ages are being invited to get creative and explore Kirkintilloch's rich industrial past at a special event on Saturday 27 May.

A free Parent and Child Print Workshop will be taking place at The Park Centre from 10am-noon and 2pm-4pm - led by artist Rachel Barron.

Rachel is one of the talented people involved in Trails & Tales - an arts and heritage learning programme which engages artists with communities to explore local history and heritage.

It's a chance to gain an insight into Rachel's creative process and experiment with some of the tools she uses to develop her art.

Working with a special block-printing technique, participants will create geometric patterns using shapes inspired by local industrial heritage, including illustrations from the Lion Foundry archives.

You will have the chance to design your own ink stamps and make prints to take home.

The workshop is suitable for children and adults of all ages and abilities - no previous experience necessary. Please wear old clothing.

If you don't want to get hands on, but are keen to gain an insight into Rachel's amazing work, there's a meet-the-artist drop-in event on the same day, between noon and 2pm at The Park Centre, 45 Kerr Street, Kirkintilloch.

From an initial background in painting, Rachel now works across multiple disciplines, including installation, sculpture and print-making.

She is particularly interested in the local heritage of Kirkintilloch’s foundries, calico printing in Milton of Campsie and the 'Turkey red' dye works at Milngavie.

Rachel is one of 13 artists creating up to 40 works locally as part of Trails & Tales - an East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust programme.

Mark Grant, General Manager of EDLC Trust, said, "This is a great opportunity to meet and work with a very talented artist, and I hope as many people as possible get involved.

"The workshops will give participants the chance to follow in Rachel's talented footsteps and create works using a block-printing technique.

"If you're around, but just want to chat with Rachel about her work, then pop into The Park Centre between noon and 2pm, and enjoy a cuppa and a piece of cake at the same time.

"Rachel is one of the talented artists helping to inspire and engage local communities through our Trails & Tales programme and we're delighted she is joining us on Saturday 27 May."

Trails & Tales is supported by East Dunbartonshire Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and Creative Scotland.
