Eligible East Dunbartonshire residents urged to take up offer of free flu vaccination

hscp lgooThe 2020 seasonal flu vaccination programme is now underway and East Dunbartonshire HSCP is encouraging all eligible people to take up the free offer to protect themselves and others this year.

Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) restrictions, the way you get your flu vaccination may be different this year. Most eligible individuals will be assigned an appointment date, time and location (likely to be a community vaccination centre, rather than at your GP surgery), where you will receive your vaccine.

You will receive your appointment by letter and residents are being urged to do everything possible to keep this appointment to avoid any delays to getting the vaccine caused by rescheduling.

The three East Dunbartonshire Vaccination Centres are:

  • Kirkintilloch Town Hall
  • Milngavie Town Hall, and;
  • Bishopbriggs War Memorial Hall.

Dr. Paul Treon, Clinical Director for East Dunbartonshire HSCP, said, "It’s really important this year - more than ever - to get your flu vaccination. Our top priority during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic remains to protect our patients, our staff and our community. By getting your flu vaccine you will be helping to protect the NHS from a dual spike in both influenza and COVID-19 during the winter months."

East Dunbartonshire HSCP Interim Chief Officer Caroline Sinclair, added, "The feedback we have received from people who have attended the vaccination centres so far has been overwhelmingly positive. People are finding the experience to be straight forward and safe. The whole process is very quick and by getting vaccinated you will be helping protect yourself, our communities and the NHS."

A short film where Dr. Treon explains more about this year's vaccination programme can be viewed online.
