Date:
Wednesday, 4 October, 2017

The Education Service in East Dunbartonshire is continuing to perform to a very high standard as reported in this year’s Standards and Quality Report.

The report, which highlights the very good and excellent standards and practice achieved, was presented to the Education Committee and has now been published on the Council’s website for parents and other stakeholders to view.

Convener of Education, Councillor Mohrag Fischer welcomed the report. She said, “This report has been structured under the National Improvement Framework Priorities and Drivers, which are designed to support improvements in attainment, achievement and equity for all children. I am pleased to see that within East Dunbartonshire we are continuing to improve attainment whilst also closing the attainment gap between the most and least disadvantaged children.”

The following key strengths are highlighted within the Annual Standards & Quality Report:

  • Very high attainment in secondary schools, particularly in SQA examinations with the best performance in five years. East Dunbartonshire consistently performs better than comparator authorities
  • Very good progress to implement Curriculum for Excellence in most schools and increased confidence in teacher judgement about achievement of a level
  • Effective family learning engagement in early years
  • The comprehensive provision for young people to support them to leave school to a positive and sustained destination in work, education or training
  • The successful professional learning programme provided for staff in all sectors by the central teams including a comprehensive programme for Additional Support needs.

Councillor Fischer continued, “This is a great report which clearly outlines the Education Service’s successful practices as well as highlighting areas for continuous improvement. I would encourage parents or anyone interested in education in East Dunbartonshire to take a look online at the full report.”
