Schools in East Dunbartonshire are among the highest performing in Scotland, according to the Times Scotland’s 2022 High School League Table.

Bearsden Academy was ranked number two in the country and Bishopbriggs Academy number 10. All eight schools in the authority were in the top 50 of the 340 listed and Kirkintilloch High school, which ranked 161 in 2021, came in at 49th place this year.

Convener of Education, Councillor Lynda Williamson, said, “East Dunbartonshire has a proud tradition of achieving excellent exam results and despite the disruption caused by the pandemic over the last two years, these high standards have been maintained. It is extremely encouraging to see our pupils have continued to thrive and that is all down to the hard work, commitment and resilience of pupils, their families, school staff and the wider education community. We are very proud of all of them and pleased that their efforts have been recognised in the Times’ High School League Table.

Councillor Williamson continued, “While enabling pupils to achieve academic success that is within their reach is important, it is not the only focus of East Dunbartonshire’s education service. Within our schools young people receive support they need to achieve their goals, be that work, training, apprenticeships or further education. East Dunbartonshire consistently achieves some of the best results in the country for securing positive destinations for all young people. I hope that all our pupils who have done so well during this challenging time are successfully pursuing their chosen careers, training programmes or further education courses and I wish them all the very best for the future.”
