Provost Gillian Renwick, Depute Provost Colette McDairmid and Councillor MarshallProvost Gillian Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDairmid have signed up for this year’s Glasgow’s Shine Night Walk to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Along with Councillor Pamela Marshall and 1000s of other participants, the Provost and Depute Provost will be pounding the city streets on Saturday 10 September and are looking for support from local people.

Provost Renwick, said, “All of us know or love someone who has been affected by cancer and we are keen to support Cancer Research UK as they strive to beat this disease.  We will be completing a 10k sponsored walk around the city in the dark, from Glasgow Science Centre to the Royal Concert Hall – and we have started training for it in preparation.  The Cancer Research website has lots of top tips on how to get ready for the event, so if you are thinking about taking part there is plenty of advice and support.”

Last year Shine Night Walk Glasgow raised a staggering £154,213 for Cancer Research UK helping to fund the charity’s life-saving work.  Over the last 40 years Cancer Research UK has helped double breast cancer survival and research happening in Glasgow right now includes; personalising medicine for people with bowel cancer, looking for molecular clues to detect pancreatic cancer earlier and helping more people survive bladder cancer.

Provost Renwick continued, “Cancer Research UK has helped save many lives and we want to support them to save many, many more.  We know that people are finding things difficult financially at the moment, so if you’d like to sponsor us to raise money for this very worthwhile cause, we will be extremely grateful.  Every penny counts and if you fancy signing up for the Shine Night Walk yourself and walking with our Civic Office team – please join us!”

You can sponsor the team.
