MSYPs will be elected from every parliamentary constituency and from national voluntary organisations throughout Scotland.  The candidates, who are aged between 14 and 25 years of age, now have two months to canvas support before the elections which will take place between 8 and 21 November.  All young people aged 12 to 25 years who live or receive an education in East Dunbartonshire are eligible to vote and details on how to vote will be publicised in the lead up to the election.

Joint Leader of the Council, Councillor Vaughan Moody, said, “I’m delighted to see so many young people in East Dunbartonshire standing for the upcoming Scottish Youth Parliament Election.  It is vitally important we have input from our young people on issues that not only affect their generation, but everyone within their communities.  Many of our local candidates are keen to see progress made on the climate crisis, equalities and other key issues that affect everyone living, learning or working in East Dunbartonshire.  I look forward to hearing more of the candidates’ views and ideas as they campaign in the lead up to the election.”

Joint Leader of the Council, Councillor Andrew Polson added, “It is extremely encouraging to see so many local young people actively involved in the Scottish Youth Parliament – congratulations to all the candidates for rising to the challenge.  I would urge young people in East Dunbartonshire to visit the SYP website and find out more their local candidates and the key issues they seek to progress if elected.  There is a host of concerns from transportation to justice to health and wellbeing, and candidates will be canvassing for votes in the coming weeks.  I encourage everyone aged between 12 and 25 who lives or studies in East Dunbartonshire to support this democratic process and vote for their chosen candidate in the November elections.”
