Date:
Wednesday, 19 October, 2016

People are being offered the chance to find out more about the variety of services and facilities which will be available when Bearsden Community Hub and Kilmardinny House open early next year.

Work is well underway on both projects which will see nearly £6m of investment within Bearsden. The Community Hub will bring East Dunbartonshire Council, library, leisure and cultural services under one roof while Kilmardinny House is being transformed into a new venue for East Dunbartonshire - supporting local conferences, weddings, arts and other events.

A drop-in awareness session has been organised for anyone who would like to find out more about the type of facilities they will offer.

East Dunbartonshire Council officers and representatives from EDLC Trust will be on hand to provide background and to address any comments and questions you may have. Details are as follows:

Date:              Wednesday 26 October
Time:             5-8pm
Venue:           Bearsden Primary School, Roman Road, G61 3SY

Complimentary refreshments and snacks will be available.

Councillor Rhondda Geekie, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said, "I would urge anyone who wants to know more about the services and facilities which will be provided within the Hub and Kilmardinny House to go along to the drop-in sessions on 26 October.

"The new Hub will bring together a wide range of Council services under one roof in an exciting and innovative way will help us deliver services more efficiently to our residents and improve their experience of dealing with the Council.

“The transformation of Kilmardinny House will allow us to continue supporting the diverse range of arts, culture and leisure services the house is renowned for, while making it even more popular as a venue for events, weddings and conferences.”

The new Community Hub, which is based on a reconfiguration of the Burgh Hall site on Drymen Road, will include the re-provisioning of the library and community archives from Brookwood as well as enhancing the current hall facilities through a full refurbishment.

The fantastic new facility, which will bring together Council, library, leisure and cultural services in a single building, will also contain meeting rooms and social work facilities, new public toilets and an entire upgrade of the current accommodation.

The on-site customer services team will make it easier for residents to access and get information about a variety of different Council services and make payments for them in just one visit.

The Kilmardinny House project includes the creation of a new garden pavilion extension, which will provide a modern, flexible space and enhance the venue as a centre for local arts, performance and community groups.

It will be able to accommodate a range of activities, including performances, exhibitions, conferences and weddings.

The existing Category A-listed House will be partially refurbished, both inside and out, including redecoration and some repairs to external stonework and windows.
