The next steps for the Lenzie Station Improvement Project will be showcased at a drop-in information event on Wednesday 13 June.Launch of the Lenzie Station Improvement Project

East Dunbartonshire Council has been working on proposals to improve public space to the north of the station since September 2016.

Extensive consultation has been held on potential ways to help ease traffic and access issues – including engagement events, feedback sessions, a dedicated website and a detailed parking study – involving residents, businesses, groups and organisations.

A report was brought to a recent meeting of the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee and members agreed to proceed with a detailed design, which includes:

  • Upgrading traffic signals, retaining the right-hand turning facility
  • Improving pedestrian crossings
  • Introduction of short-term parking bays (two hours) to improve access to local shops
  • Footpath improvements with retained kerb heights
  • Improved lighting
  • High-quality materials and enhanced street furniture
  • Improved accessibility to the rail station
  • Better parking facilities
  • Bus stop upgrade, with real-time information.

Residents, businesses and groups are invited to find out more about at a drop-in event on Wednesday 13 June, 3pm-7pm, in Lenzie Public Hall. Please note, this is an information event and not intended as a consultation exercise.

Funding has been secured through planning gain from housebuilders involved in the Woodilee development, with additional support from Sustrans Scotland, SPT and Abellio ScotRail.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, said, “The aim of the Lenzie Station Improvement Project is to improve accessibility to local facilities and redesign the public space – making it feel safer and look better.

“It has been a challenge for the team to balance the needs of residents, businesses, customers, rail users and more, but it has culminated in designs which we believe will help to address long-standing issues.

“I’m particularly pleased that there will be more short-term parking – helping to support local businesses and services.

“Unfortunately, Lenzie Station car park is not owned by the Council so we have limited influence in implementing changes there, but we are working with Abellio ScotRail and other partners to make it easier for people to move between different forms of transport in the area.”

All plans will be subject to the Traffic Regulation Order process and any parking displacement will continue to be monitored.

A range of consultation and community engagement events have been held:
