Dreaming of a green Christmas? Remember to recycle your tree and cards

Date:
Monday, 9 December, 2019

While this month is all about rocking around the Christmas tree, once the celebrations are over you can have a greener Christmas by recycling your tree along with your tinsel-free cards.

From Sunday 5 January 2020 you can dispose of your real tree in a skip at these locations:

  • Allander Sports Centre, Bearsden
  • William Patrick Library car park, Kirkintilloch
  • Mavis Valley Recycling Centre, Bishopbriggs.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Council’s Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, is urging all residents to keep up the good work when it comes to recycling.

He said, “Residents of East Dunbartonshire have traditionally been diligent at recycling, but with every passing year the issue becomes more important. The Scottish Government Zero Waste target is for 60% of rubbish to be recycled by the end of this new year, 2020.

“By recycling your Christmas tree this year, you can ensure that it doesn’t contribute to rubbish going to landfill.

"If you're not able to take it to one of the recycling points, you can call the Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 4510 and arrange for your Christmas tree or a one-off collection of garden waste bin to be picked up free of charge between Saturday 18 January and Saturday 25 January 2020.

He added, “You can also recycle your Christmas cards by placing them in the blue bin.”
