East Dunbartonshire Libraries’ digital services have had a makeover meaning it’s simpler than ever before to access your favourite titles wherever you go.

An extensive suite of digital library services puts eBooks, eAudiobooks , digital comics, graphic novels and magazines at your fingertips.

Our new eBook service - BorrowBox Library from Bolinda Digital - offers a great collection of over 2,300 eBooks and a small collection of e-audiobooks with titles for all ages. A free app is available for Apple, Android and Kindle Fire devices which makes downloading, reading or listening very simple and straightforward.

ComicsPlus Library Edition is another recent addition to our digital services. It offers a selection of over 16,000 comic books and graphic novels with titles suitable for ages from over-fives through to over-16s that you can read online or download using the free Apple or Android apps to read offline. Parental controls are available via the free app.

Our One Click Digital service has also seen a few changes and readers can now access eAudiobooks, eBooks and digital magazines via the new RBdigital app offering greater convenience and choice. The free RBdigital app is available for Apple, Android and Kindle Fire devices.

If you prefer to use an e-reader or MP3 player rather than a tablet or smartphone you can download the eBooks and eAudiobooks to your computer and either read them or listen to on your computer or transfer them to your device.

Councillor Jim Gibbons, Convenor of the Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said, “These new services are the latest developments by East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust to make accessing services as easy as possible and means you can now browse thousands of books without leaving the house.

“The digital library is open around the clock, so if your busy lifestyle leaves little time to get to the library, use BorrowBox, RBdigital and ComicsPlus to borrow, download and enjoy the latest titles by bestselling authors whenever and wherever you want.”

To register for any of these services you just need your library membership barcode number, your PIN or password and an email address. Web links and more information about these services are available in the 24/7 Library section of the EDLC website https://www.edlc.co.uk/libraries/24-7-library . Any library members who do not have a PIN or have forgotten it can ask at their local EDLC library or e-mail libraries@eastdunbarton.gov.uk and a PIN can be reset for them.

Sandy Marshall, Vice Chair of EDLC Trust, said, “It is important our libraries continue to evolve and keep up with trends and technology if we are to keep people interested in using our services.

“These great new editions to our suite of digital library services mean it’s even easier now to access library services on a tablet or smartphone. Many people rely so heavily on these gadgets for so many parts of our lives and they will help avid readers feed their appetite.

“I'd encourage people to give it a go and for anyone who is not sure of the technology there is help available.”

Regular drop in Tablet Tips sessions take place in libraries and if you are experiencing problems accessing any of our digital library services, why not bring along your tablet or smartphone and we can try and sort out any issues you are having. Dates and times of sessions are available in our What On Brochure https://www.edlc.co.uk/heritage-arts/whats-on .

Alternatively, support is available in all libraries or you can email your question to libraries@eastdunbarton.gov.uk or call 0141 777 3143.
