Delay to the opening of Auchinairn Nursery and Community Facility

The recent severe weather has caused significant disruption to the completion of the new Auchinairn Early Learning and Childcare Centre and Community Facility due to open on Wednesday 4 April.

Delays to site deliveries and the inability to carry out work on the building, has resulted in the facility opening six days later than planned.  Doors will now open to the nursery children and the wider community on Tuesday 10 April.

There will also be changes to the additional holidays for the children.  The scheduled nursery closure days on Thursday 29 March and Tuesday 3 April have now been cancelled and children will continue to attend their existing nursery until Thursday 5 April.  The nursery will then be closed to children on Friday 6 April and Monday 9 April.  Thereafter the children will attend their new Early Learning and Childcare Centre on Tuesday 10 April.

Depute Chief Executive, Education, People & Business, Ann Davie, said, “Parents and community groups have been made aware of this unavoidable delay and we apologise for any inconvenience this will cause, particularly with the changes to the nursery closure dates.  The nursery will require to be closed to children on the 6th and 9th of April to allow our employees the space and time to create an environment for the children that is completely ready and welcoming. Whilst these are exciting times for the children, some may find it a bit unsettling and these days of preparation will allow us to achieve as smooth a transition as possible.”

The new Early Learning and Childcare Centre and Community Facility is being built on the site of the old Auchinairn Primary School.  The building will offer a modern fit-for-purpose learning environment for pre-school children and a multi-purpose community facility which can accommodate sports, music groups and many other recreational activities.

Ann Davie continued, “Whilst we are disappointed that the centre will not be opening after the Easter weekend as planned, no one could account for the recent weather which has caused significant disruption for many businesses and organisations in the area.  Our contractors are working around the clock to complete this project and we are all thoroughly looking forward to the opening of this fantastic new building on Tuesday, 10 April.”
