Rainbow flagJune is traditionally Pride Month in the UK, coinciding with the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in June 1969.  Although Pride events, marches and celebrations will be on hold this year as a result of restriction on gatherings and social distancing requirements as a result of coronavirus (Covid-19) the Council is still keen to show its support and recognition to the LGBT+ community.

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody explains, “The Council has an inclusive approach to all of our communities and does not tolerate any form of discrimination.  We celebrate key dates each year significant to the LGBT+ community, such as LGBT+ History Month in February and Pride Month in the summer.  They are important opportunities to remind ourselves that no one should experience discrimination of any sort.”

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson added, “Whilst we cannot meet with our Community Planning Partners in the area and representatives of our LGBT+ community as we usually would, to raise our Rainbow Flag, we will show our support for Pride Month through our social media channels and of course by ensuring that we continue to be an inclusive employer and show no discrimination in our service delivery across East Dunbartonshire.”
