Council CEO Councillors and Officers with external winnerThere were some very happy faces at this year's STARs Awards in Bishopbriggs when the excellent service provided by Council employees was recognised and celebrated.

East Dunbartonshire's Joint Council Leaders Vaughan Moody and Andrew Polson hosted the event in the War Memorial Hall in Bishopbriggs and unveiled the Special Thanks And Recognition Scheme winners for 2019.

The shining STARs across the five categories for 2019 are as follows:

  • Employee Award (Internally Nominated): Carolyn Coll, Janitorial Assistant
  • Employee Award (Externally Nominated): Linda Stewart, Principal Teacher at Twechar Primary School
  • Young Employee: Joshua Brown, Clober Nursery; Aedan Coll, Streetscene; Christopher Donnelly, Roads & Greenspace; and Aidan Maguire, Major Assets.
  • Team Award (Internally Nominated): Shona Baird, Nikita Shah and Frances Tonner from the joint ‘Car Rescue’ team
  • Team Award (Externally Nominated): St. Ninian's High School Administration & Clerical Team.

Councillor Moody said, "Huge congratulations to all our winners! It was fantastic to see them all at our Awards Ceremony and to hear about the great job that they do. It was obvious from their nominations why they were short-leeted and came out on top. They are among the very best that local government has to offer."

The annual STARs Awards - now in its fifth year - is an opportunity for customers and colleagues to nominate those Council employees who consistently offer a top class service and go above and beyond in their day-to-day work.

Councillor Polson added, "It is right that we recognise good service and reward excellence when we see it. It is important that our employees know they are valued by their colleagues, their bosses and customers.

Council CEO Councillors and Officers with internal winnerThis annual event is an opportunity for us to do all of that and to celebrate those among us who consistently go the extra mile."

Despite tough competition in all categories the judging panel was able, after much deliberation, to select the 2019 winner.  However they were not able to separate the nominees in the Young Employee category.

All four short-leeted finalists are apprentices with the Council on its award-winning Modern Apprenticeship Scheme and the judges could not distinguish between the exceptional nominations, and to their delight, all four of them were awarded in this category – a fitting testament to the value the Council places on its young workforce.
