flytipping
Over the summer, the people of East Dunbartonshire will be able to dump their rubbish, free of charge, in skips being provided at key locations across the area.

During the 'rubbish amnesty' in July and August, Community Safety Officers will highlight the threats that fly-tipping can cause to people and wildlife, and the negative effects it can have on our environment. They will also be encouraging residents to report incidences of fly-tipping to help them pursue enforcement activity, including prosecutions.

It is hoped that local people will take advantage of the free skips and use them to deposit any excess household and garden waste.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said, “This initiative provides an opportunity to have that clear out and dispose of items properly at a convenient location, near you, over a weekend. When we did this last year, the response was fantastic so I hope we can replicate that this time around."

Fly-tipping continues to be a problem in East Dunbartonshire but people are being penalised. Councillor Hendry continued, "With the support of the local community, so far this year the Council has issued seven fixed penalty notices to fly-tippers who were caught in the act and they have been fined the £200 fixed penalty notice.

"Despite this, there are still those who blatantly and continuously dump rubbish on our streets and in our green spaces. If you see fly-tipping you can report it online using the ‘Report It’ facility on the website homepage* or by calling 0300 123 4510 in confidence."
