Council ensuring GDPR Compliance

On Friday 25 May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) will come into force across Europe, providing individuals with greater protection in terms of how their data is stored and used.

The Council has been working hard to ensure that the use of personal information, across all service areas, meets the principles of the legislation and ensures that the rights of individuals are respected.

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson explained, “In keeping with the new legislation we have revised the way we tell people about what information we hold about them. Individuals will likely receive correspondence from the areas of the Council that provide them with services, explaining the new legislation and the Council's responsibilities in respect of their personal information.”

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody added, “As a rule the Council does not share personal information between different departments, so some individuals may receive a number of separate privacy notices, one from each Council service they engage with. This reinforces that each Council service only uses personal data for the purpose specified, and as confirmed in the privacy statement.”

A Guide to GDPR and personal data can be found with privacy notices on the Council website (www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/council/privacy-notices) and anyone with any questions or concerns about the Council’s handling of personal data can contact the Council’s Data Protection Officer at the following email address dpo@eastdunbarton.gov.uk or through the details on the website.
